There’s a monkey on the back of nearly 65 million Americans, and it’s called back pain: the shooting, burning, aching pain plagues their everyday lives and often forces them to turn to harmful, addictive pain medications or surgery to find some relief.

If you’re one of these individuals living under the weight of daily back pain, we know how important it is to you to find a treatment that brings lasting relief without sacrificing other areas of your health.

Dr. Dana Robinson at Peninsula RSI Chiropractic Wellness Center specializes in treating your back pain quickly, safely, and conservatively. Here, we explore our advanced spinal decompression therapy technology and how it can benefit you.

Spinal decompression therapy explained

Spinal decompression therapy can be categorized in two ways: nonsurgical and surgical.

Surgical options are often used as a last resort and only in the most extreme cases of back pain.

We use nonsurgical spinal decompression therapy to address the pain and other symptoms that accompany common causes of back pain, including sciatica, bulging or herniated disks, spinal joint damage, and injured or diseased spinal nerve roots.

This noninvasive therapy involves gently stretching your spine to correct its positioning and the amount of force your spinal disks bear. It releases the pressure on the structures of your spine, allowing water, oxygen, and nutrient-rich fluids to flow through it and begin the healing process.

Spinal decompression therapy has made significant advancements through the years, and we’re proud to offer the industry’s leading spinal decompression therapy technology: the DRX9000 table.

A closer look at the DRX900 table

In all matters regarding the spine, precision matters. That’s why we rely on both the skill of our expert chiropractor and the advanced technology of the DRX9000 table to administer spinal decompression therapy. The DRX9000 table is a computerized table that allows us to make necessary adjustments to your spinal decompression therapy and completely customize your treatment to your exact needs.

During your treatment, you lie either face down or face up on the table. Then, we fit a harness around your pelvis or your trunk, and Dr. Robinson programs the table to begin your treatment.

Depending on your needs, your treatment may last anywhere from 30-45 minutes. We may recommend that you have multiple treatments over a series of weeks. Often, we combine spinal decompression therapy with other chiropractic care treatments, such as:

  • Spinal manipulation and mobilization
  • Massage therapy
  • Soft tissue recovery
  • Class 4 laser biostimulation
  • Electrical stimulation units
  • Posture correction
  • Ergonomic and repetitive motion correction
  • Functional rehabilitation
  • Balance training

Back pain treatment is never one-size-fits-all, so we work closely with you to create a treatment plan that will work best for you.

Candidates for the DRX9000 table

Spinal decompression therapy on the DRX9000 is a versatile treatment that can address a wide variety of causes of back pain, and it’s typically an option for most of our patients. We might not recommend spinal decompression therapy if you have a fracture, tumor, metal implants in your spine, or if you have certain health conditions, including abdominal aortic aneurysms or advanced osteoporosis.

We conduct a thorough review of your health history and your symptoms to see if spinal decompression therapy or another treatment is right for you.
